WHICH SWITCH OPENS

THE LIGHT? - ANSWER

Age group: All

QUESTIONS ASKED BY YOU-
NOW SOLVED!

Hi all! As you know, you can ask your questions (i.e. brain teasers) by using the following link:

The below question is a question that was asked by one of you, and here is the solution for this!

The question was:

" You are in a room that has three switches and a closed door. The switches control three light bulbs on the other side of the door. Once you open the door, you may never touch the switches again.
How can you definitively tell which switch is connected to each of the light bulbs? "

You can also view the question here:

Now coming to the Answer!

This is what you can do:
  1. Switch on the first switch while you are outside and leave it on for some time...
  2. Then switch off the first switch and turn on the second one.
  3. Go inside the room
  4. If you find that the light bulb is switched on, then the second switch is the correct switch.
  5. If you find the light off, touch the light bulb.
  6. If it is hot, the first switch is the correct switch - because the first switch was left switched on for some time which would have resulted in a heating effect.
  7. If it is cold, then it is the third switch which is correct.
And voila, you have your answer!
